Babystepping to Australia

Hi there! We are taking baby steps to get to Australia, and this week is baby step # 2 of 3, so let's rewind to baby step # 1.

Our westward journey began on a snowy Boxing Day with a prolonged drive from Napanee to YYZ, avoiding the 401 and taking snow-filled backroads with scenic views of Teslas stuck in ditches (subtle foreshadowing...)

A long drive was followed by a delayed flight. While waiting, we listened to worrisome announcements of AirCanada cancelling nearly all other departing flights. Thankfully, we both had a lot of reading to catch up on before our impending book club meeting, so the audiobook helped drown out the disappointed crowds around us.

Before the clock struck midnight (3.5 hours behind schedule), we took off and made it to Kelowna! The adventure continued when we ordered our Uber and started the 67km drive in a Tesla that only had 50km of range left...

Our Tesla unfortunately did not make it. Even after a stop to charge in Vernon. We were left stranded on the side of the mountain at 4am in -18°C weather.

We tore through our bags and found our winter apparel, then contemplated a short 4km walk up the rest of the mountain. Instead, we woke up James' parents, Scott & Cath, to request a lift in a more reliable, fossil-fuel-powered vehicle.

Adding to the series of unfortunate events, their truck was iced up and sweet time was taken to come to our rescue.

We are happy to report that we made it to safety, are further sworn off from buying a Tesla, and got a full refund from Uber. So here we've been for the past 2 weeks, hitting the slopes, the hot tub, the trails, and the pubs.

Looking forward to warmer weather, eh. See you there!
